BOSSMAN
BOSSMAN doesn't just make the bosses harder.
It makes you better.
A boss-first action game and adaptive encounter system where every fight challenges what the player has learned, exposes the habits they rely on, and forces them to evolve.
THE CORE EXPERIMENT
Progress the player.
Not only the character.
Most games reward more health, stronger armor, and larger numbers. BOSSMAN explores progression in the person holding the controller.
“What worked before isn't enough anymore.
I need to change how I play.”
REUSABLE ENCOUNTER TECHNOLOGY
The Boss Factory
Every finished encounter leaves behind systems, tests, tools, and production knowledge. Future bosses become faster to build without becoming mechanically generic.
Encounter Logic
Boss definitions, phase graphs, attacks, directors, anti-repetition, and difficulty profiles.
Combat Primitives
Melee, projectiles, AoE, telegraphs, weak points, armor, stagger, and vulnerability windows.
Arena Systems
Hazards, transformation, destruction, traversal, presentation events, and phase transitions.
Director Tools
Instant restart, phase jumping, attack forcing, visualization, telemetry, and deterministic tests.

Player Adaptation Memory
A local profile gradually learns how one player fights. Later bosses can challenge established habits while stale habits decay and genuine change is recognized.
- ✓Past behavior onlyNo future-input reading or impossible reactions.
- ✓Authored countersBosses challenge tendencies; they do not counter everything.
- ✓Transparent rulesBegin deterministic and explainable, not black-box.
- ✓Per-save privacyCombat memory remains local to the player's profile.

SANITIZED PROJECT LOG
Recent Updates
Validation suite v2 and reproducible gate runner pass
BOSSMAN now validates all three accepted bosses and the anthology through one fail-closed gate while exposing the production runtime through a complete mouse-and-controller BossLab interface. The in-engine workshop supports readable authoring, timeline tuning, three 3D views, reversible configuration changes, scenario batches, accessibility review, deterministic replay and presentation rehearsal without changing combat truth. Forty-two packaged validation checks, three editor automation tests and fourteen source-boundary checks pass, including twenty exact fire-sweep loops, one hundred complete encounter-switch cycles, one hundred resets per boss, negative controls and a separate Shipping build with BossLab compiled out. The hash-sealed known-good build is verified on the playtest PC, unlocking Day 46 performance, loading and graphics baseline.
Boss Spec-to-scaffold automation v2 passes
BOSSMAN now turns recorded natural-language boss intent into deterministic review drafts, protected Unreal scaffolds, test outlines and production declarations while keeping ambiguity visible and optional reward ideas non-binding. Bounded tuning changes apply transactionally at safe combat boundaries, named configurations round-trip exactly, interrupted saves recover safely, A/B comparisons cannot teach player memory, and every promotion or rollback is traceable. Twenty-nine packaged checks pass, including generated-code compilation, preserved bespoke work, stale-reference rejection and a separate player build with authoring tools compiled out. The known-good build is verified on the playtest PC, unlocking Day 45 validation suite v2 and the reproducible gate runner.
Boss Factory v2 runtime services pass
BOSSMAN now runs all three accepted encounters through shared lifecycle and player-memory observation seams while keeping each signature mechanic isolated. Stable attack identifiers, authored phase control, deterministic developer controls, exact snapshot replay and lightweight 3D presentation rehearsal all use the production combat runtime. Twenty-eight packaged checks pass, including every ordered boss switch, all three standalone contracts, replay divergence reporting, clean workshop exit and a separate player build with developer controls compiled out. The known-good build is verified on the playtest PC, unlocking Day 44 Boss Spec-to-scaffold automation v2.
Accessibility, input and settings foundation passes
BOSSMAN now provides persistent player settings for controls, camera sensitivity and deadzone, captions and text scale, reduced screen effects, flash and camera motion, audio groups, display quality, difficulty and bounded adaptation intensity. Standard and Alternate keyboard, mouse and controller paths pass, and nearby targets cycle deterministically without exposing Vesper's hidden identity. All twenty-five packaged checks pass, including safe migration and reset, reduced-effects combat truth, every direct boss contract and the complete anthology flow. The known-good build is verified on the playtest PC, unlocking Day 43 Boss Factory v2 implementation.
Behavioral difficulty profiles pass
BOSSMAN now provides Classic, Hero and Master as inspectable behavioral profiles rather than hidden stat inflation. Hero preserves the accepted baseline, Classic reduces bounded learned pressure, and Master strengthens only existing authored followups while every profile keeps health and damage unchanged. All twenty-four packaged checks pass, including every profile across all three bosses, clean reconstruction, full/reduced/off adaptation intensity and all inherited save, direct-entry and anthology-flow regressions. The sixty-file known-good build is verified on the playtest PC, unlocking Day 42 accessibility, input and settings foundation.
Versioned saves and recovery pass
BOSSMAN now stores progression, settings and bounded player memory in isolated versioned local profiles with atomic replacement, verified backups, safe migration, single-writer protection and an explicit player-memory reset. Corrupt or unsupported data falls back to neutral behavior without granting unfair pressure, and unreadable evidence is preserved before recovery reset. Twenty-three packaged checks pass, including forty-two save and recovery assertions, more than seventy-three thousand bounded response cases, one thousand randomized observations and all three standalone boss contracts. The known-good build is verified on the playtest PC, unlocking Day 41 difficulty profiles and adaptation intensity.
Cross-boss player-memory architecture passes
The player-memory v2 design now defines bounded traits, conservative cross-boss transfer, confidence and decay, per-fight summaries, a shared response limit and consistent opt-out behavior. Migration preserves prior data for recovery while rebuilding confidence under clearer observation rules. Thirty-three contract tests and more than seventy-three thousand bounded response cases pass, along with nine existing packaged profile, adaptation, mechanic and standalone checks. This is architecture acceptance: the accepted playable build is unchanged, and production save implementation remains Day 40.
Three-boss anthology flow passes
BOSSMAN now connects boot, local profile selection, all three boss encounters, victory and defeat results, retry and return in one packaged UE5 flow. All three bosses still launch directly, all six ordered boss switches rebuild cleanly, controller-only menu navigation passes, and exact defeat/retry plus victory/return paths preserve encounter state. Twenty-two automated checks pass, the known-good build is sealed and verified on the playtest PC, and the combat cue, switch cleanup and reset ownership findings from the architecture review are resolved without starting the later Boss Factory v2 extraction. Day 39 is unlocked for the PlayerCombatProfile v2 architecture.
Three-boss architecture review and Boss Factory v2 plan accepted
The three accepted encounters now have a written extraction and migration plan that preserves their distinct mechanics. BossLab authoring and fully 3D play will share production runtime services, with reversible tuning, validated promotion and developer-only rehearsal tools. The review records follow-up checks for combat-cue accuracy, encounter switching, reset cleanup and data compatibility. Nine existing specification tests, three projection comparisons and all three preserved rollback packages were verified. This is architecture acceptance; workshop implementation and physical acceptance remain later gates. Day 38 is unlocked for the anthology flow shell.
Vesper accepted and frozen as Boss #3
The Creative Director accepted the complete Vesper encounter after the final controller repairs. Revision 8 blocks transition damage, restores defeat to the arena start, adds Victory and You Died presentation, replaces Mask Rake proxy boxes with staged line and cone cues, extends lock acquisition and preserves Honest Shadow ambiguity. All thirty-two automated checks and nine rendered reviews pass. Twenty-four completed private playtest attempts, including three victories, show balanced attack coverage and no analyzer findings. The hash-verified build is frozen, and Day 37 is unlocked for the three-boss architecture review. Clearer multi-target R1 selection and visual feedback remain recorded for a future framework pass.
